Therapy FAQ

What next?

We can arrange an initial meeting to discuss what the issues are and what your expectations of the outcome of the therapy would be. You will be invited to explore the art materials in a way you find comfortable. Then we can reflect on your experience of the image or object you have created. I believe that by the end of the session each of us will have a rough idea whether art therapy is right for you. If so, you will be offered six weekly sessions, at the end of which we will have a review. Again, we will re-visit the goals and expectations, will explore your experience being in therapy, and you can make a decision if you would like to continue. The therapy can continue on a short term (12-24 sessions) or on a long term basis (one year or more). During the process we will have regular review sessions.

Sessions are offered on a weekly basis. They are 50 minutes long and will always finish on time from the set appointment time. The sessions are offered to you on an open-ended basis, with reviews every 6-8 weeks.

When will therapy take place?

Sessions should happen every week at the same time. If changes need to be made, they can be arranged in advance, as well as holidays and other breaks.

Is it confidential?

Everything that happens during the session is confidential. For this reason, your images and objects will be kept in your folder safely by me until the end of therapy. You can access them at every session. At the end of therapy you can collect and take all of your work with you. We will discuss confidentiality further at our initial meeting.

How long will therapy last?

If you or both of us start thinking of the ending of therapy, we can set a date for the last session. With the short-term therapy it would be good to have two or three sessions for processing the ending. With the long term therapy, it would be helpful for the ending time to be longer.

How much does it cost?

A 50-minute session for individuals costs between £50 and £60. I can also offer some reduced-fee slots to those on low incomes such as unemployed or students. Please contact me to discuss availability.
